However, after his death in 2010, Pinki's family was shattered. Talking to TOI, Pinki said, "I dedicate my success to my parents. They always worked hard to support my education. The early demise of my father, in fact, hardened my resolve to make it to the civil services." It was a dream come true for her. Though poverty stood as a stumbling block, her burning desire to rise in life yielded success in the long run, she added. Recalling that she temporarily discontinued her studies following her father's death to help her mother run the five-member family, she said she started giving private tuitions to schoolchildren. Pinki's mother said she studied at the local Muralidhar High School. She later graduated with honours from S K Mahila college, Jehanabad, in 1995. After completing her graduation, she did her masters from Nalanda Open University (NOU) and also qualified for the NET. Sanjay Kumar, principal, S K Mahila college, said, "Pinki has set an example for all girls coming from humble background. The fact that she cracked the BPSC exam braving so much odds is no mean achievement."
